Back To Work

Sorry everyone I haven’t posted in awhile I have been taking the summer off. We bought a used fishing boat and have Been putting out our “Gone Fishing” sign. It was nice to take off some months after working 11 months straight , 7 days a week on our home so we could move in. But now we are ready to get back to work and finish up the basement. We are currently working on the rec room and what we are doing to it I think is pretty cool. For those of you who have been following my blog know we once wanted to build a log home, but decided against it at the last minute because of the maintenance of the logs , with having to restain them every 3 to 5 years. So we have added log siding to our rec room. I am also building  another bar and will be doing a post about that. Can’t wait to show you after it’s all done.

We also planted over 26 new trees this past spring and it wasn’t a good year to do that. We had a severe drought this summer and our water bill was very high trying to keep the new trees from dying. I also hope to do another post about our tree tubes and how they have faired so far it’s been 6 years since our trees in the bottom ground has been planted. So hopefully I will do that in the not to distant future.

This is a sneak preview and can’t wait to show you when we are done.

Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing your progress. It’s been fun watching it all unfold over the past several years.

  2. Hi Gordon, it’s looking really great! I used log siding like that in a bathroom we built for the grandkids to use, and I love the look. Your bar is looking great!

Looking nice. We got the addition done last winter. I got 6 inch gutters and 5 inch on the addition. Made a flower bed 40 long in front for plants and rises. We got a 24 foot above ground pool installed the end of July and a retaining wall around it because it was in the ground 12 inches on one side. Been bow hunting across the road. No luck yet. Keep us informed.

  5. Isn’t life weird… we lost 6 trees this past week due to Hurrican Ophelia… the main reason they came down is because the ground is so sodden, so early in the winter, and they still had their leaves so were top heavy.

Wooded area looking rather forlorn without them…. and today we have floods everywhere!

  6. Sorry to hear that Margaret, there really has been a bad year for Hurricanes. I hope things don’t get any worse for you all. I know we could sure use of that rain, but that’s the way of things now extreme weather.

Hi Gordon. I cant say it enough how much I love what you’ve done with your house, you must be delighted with the way things are coming on. It’s interesting that you say you have had drought this year, because in our part of Spain it’s been quite the opposite, we’ve had by far the wettest year since we moved here 13 years ago, which causes it’s own problems in a country not geared up for wet weather. P.S. Glad to see you posting again

    • Thanks Steve, we are delighted the way things are coming along on our house. It’s been a lot of work but very satisfying to have accomplished it ourselves. The effects of global warming is making the weather around the world really extreme. It’s either drought or very wet, not much moderation. Sadly we now have a President who doesn’t believe in global warming and thinks it’s a hoax even though the US has been hit with 4 hurricanes this year. I hope the weather gets better for you, we have gotten some good rain this fall that have saved many of the trees around here. I hope to see some post about your place soon and thanks for your commenting.
